This week: We’re digging into all the “invisible” progress you’re making in life: why it’s hard to see, and how to get better at recognizing it in the moment. Scroll on for the scoop!

😶‍🌫️ The Hard Truth About “Invisible” Progress

Some of the most important progress you’ll ever make in life won’t look like anything from the outside.

Not every milestone, result, or moment has something you can point to and say, “There it is!”

(Which really sucks for our reward-loving brains, tbh.)

The good news: Things are still shifting; habits are still forming; thought patterns are still changing; groundwork is still being laid.

What’s tricky is your inability to see all that. But more on that in a mo.

An even greater danger is totally dismissing this invisible progress, and convincing yourself nothing’s moving forward when the opposite is actually true.

But if all this movement is really happening, why’s it so hard for us to see? Hop to the next section to find out.

😵‍💫 Why We Can’t See It

  • 🎁 We're wired to notice results / finished things: Because we’re laser-focused on the destination, the slow build toward it feels like an obstacle or nuisance.

  • 🐢 Passive growth happens slowly in the background: From relationships to mindsets to sleeping habits, a lot of your progress is less obvious and more gradual than you think.

  • 🤺 Comparisons / assumptions / skewed judgments steal our joy: We compare our insides to other people's outsides, their visible wins against our invisible work.

  • ❓ We set vague goals for ourselves (like “study more” vs. “study for 2 hrs”): Without a clear marker, it's easy to assume we're falling behind or not doing enough.

  • 🙇‍♂️ Social and external pressures distort our views on progress: Work, school, and home life move lightning-fast, with lots of red tape and inflated expectations weighing us down

Before we move onto our tips for seeing it as it happens, we’ve got some IRL examples of invisible progress for you to ponder.

🧠 5 Real-Life Examples

  1. Choosing not to react the way you used to

  2. Showing up regularly (even when it doesn't feel like it's working)

  3. A conversation that goes better than it would have six months ago

  4. Feeling slightly less anxious about something that used to derail you completely

  5. Knowing what you need and actually asking for it

All of these examples might happen in tiny shards, but each one is a huge deal for your growth.

But how do you start noticing them? Read on for 4 things to try.

Now, here’s how to start seeing your progress!

🔍 How to Start Seeing It

📱 Keep a simple running note of your wins

Not a journal, just a line or two at the end of each day or week about what felt different or easier.

Everything counts, and nothing is too small or inconsequential.

In fact, we encourage you to think tiny. These small wins stack up into huge accomplishments.

⏮️ Look back, not just forward

“When you look back, you’ll be proud of yourself — so chill out!”

We said this back in June 2025 (peep the Picks section below for the link), and we still stand by it.

Part of the reason we stay so anxious is because we’re always looking ahead. Even though our brains are wired that way, we can practice new perspectives, too.

It’s okay to slow down and peek in the rearview. So carve out space to compare your present to your past.

Reflect on who / where you were 6 weeks, months, or years ago. (After all, these “past lives” are the ones who got you here!)

🗣️ Name the invisible things out loud

Saying it with your chest works wonders for so many of life’s speed bumps, including the invisible ones.

Even if it’s just to yourself, try reaffirming as often as you can. Examples:

  • “I handled that better than I would have before.”

  • “Expressing my needs was scary, but I’m proud of myself, and I feel relieved.”

🧗‍♂️ Trust the slow build

It’s not fun or exciting advice, but “trusting the process” really is the way.

If it feels hard to do, that’s because it genuinely is.

Impatience and a compulsion to move faster often come naturally to ambitious people.

Just remember: The most meaningful changes don’t always announce themselves.

So try listening out for the whispers of progress, not just the shouts.
