🦦 No More Zero Days

What zero days are and how to end them.

Hey there! Welcome back to The Flow by Flocus. If you’re new around here, welcome! 👋 You can catch up on our previous editions right here.

This week: We’re gonna put you onto the mindset of “No More Zero Days”. It’s simple, but a game-changer. And we’ll cover it in less than 2 minutes. Let’s jump in.

🦦 What are Zero Days?

Zero days are days when you don't do a single thing towards achieving your long-term goals.

Whether it’s for your personal life, academics, career, fitness, finances, or anywhere in between, we all have had days where we let our goals slide. Unfortunately, these days halt progress, hurt your morale, and foster a mindset of stagnation.

You don't have to be "productive" every single day in the traditional sense — but the idea here is to do something each day — whether it betters you personally, academically, or professionally.

The aim isn't nonstop productivity. You just want to make sure each day is a non-zero day. Here’s how:

⚡ The “No More Zero Days” Philosophy

Do something — anything — that gets you a step closer to your goals.

  1. The Rule of “1”: Even if it’s reading one page, doing one push-up, or sending one important email, no effort is too small.

  2. Build Momentum: Consistency breeds success. A single step each day can build a chain of momentum that's hard to break.

  3. Align Actions & Goals: When each day contributes to your long-term objectives, your immediate actions start falling in line naturally. Get in touch with your “why”, and the rest will follow.

🛠 Putting it into Practice

🪜 Start Small

Don’t know where to begin? Start small. Clear out one email, jot down one business idea, or read one chapter for your upcoming exam.

🎯 Be Specific

That said, don’t just say "I'll do something small," get granular. What is that 'something small'? It could be as simple as putting on your gym shoes, which could lead to a quick workout. The more specific you are, the easier it’ll be.

🗓️ Stay Accountable

Start marking your calendar every day you have a non-zero day and start building a streak!

🦾 Automate When Possible

Certain actions can be automated so that they never count as a 'zero' in your day. Think of things like automated savings or predefined times for reading or exercise. Once it's automated, it's easier to build upon that foundation.

🔕 Cut out the Noise

Your phone is a treasure trove of distractions. Embrace digital minimalism and delete apps that contribute to your zero days or, at the very least, remove them from your home screen. Even better, use your phone’s focus feature to designate specific times when your phone will be on Do Not Disturb to help you maintain focus periods.
