🌤️ Let the Day Be Weird
How to deal with weird days, and how to get back on track — in 5 minutes.

Hey there! Welcome back to The Flow by Flocus. If you’re new around here, welcome! 👋 You can catch up on our previous editions right here.
This week: Let the day be weird — what that means, why it matters for a fun and fulfilling life, and how to let go of all guilt and self-criticism attached. Let’s get to it!
🤨 WDYM, “Let the Day Be Weird”?
We’ve all had those days that just don’t go to plan.
Sometimes, it feels like the universe is determined to throw us off the course we’ve set for ourselves:
🫂 You plan to study for 5 hours, but your best friend calls you crying
🍜 Instead of working on your project, you accept a last-minute lunch invite from a friend
🧼 While you’re cleaning, your cousin calls to tell you she’s engaged, so you spend the rest of the day talking to your family
Notice how some of those “weird” days were disrupted by happy news and big life stuff?
That’s because “weird” doesn’t automatically mean “bad”.
Emotions, interruptions, and randomness are part of life. Sometimes, they’re the most important parts.
Also, you’re not a robot. It’s okay to step away from your responsibilities to soak up some random happiness, or support a loved one who’s having a hard time.
You probably know all this already — so why is it so hard to simply “let the day be weird” in practice? Let’s dig a little deeper to find out.
🫷Why We Resist “Weird” Days
Holding yourself to a rigid ideal every single day is a recipe for burnout.
Weird days can bring unexpected joy, creativity, or rest — but only if you let them.
And beware the urge to grab your day by the horns to steer it back to your “ideal” plan or routine. This could end up hurting you in the long run.
If you tell your best friend who’s crying that “you’re too busy studying” to talk, you could cause even more pain for them — which might lead to an argument that ends the friendship.
Embracing “weird” days isn’t just for your benefit. It can also make or break your most cherished relationships.
With this in mind, how do you shake off the inner critic that pipes up anytime you stray from your to-do list? Let’s take a look.

🪁 How to Move Through Weird Days
Letting the day be weird helps you bounce back faster instead of spiraling into guilt. Here are a few ways to do it.
🦹 Call it what it is: a weird day
Naming it reduces some of the pressure.
If it helps, reflect on some of your favorite “weird” days from the past. This will remind you of all those times you were glad that you embraced the randomness.
🎛️ Adjust your expectations
Trade your to-do list for a “nice if it happens” list.
Your to-do list is probably too long, anyway. So check your list, and trim it twice.
Also, try resisting the urge to rush through whatever’s disrupting your day so you can get back to what you were doing before.
When that urge crops up, notice it and hold space for it. You may find trying to fight it will only make it worse.
🤪 Do something offbeat or random
Now that you know it’s a weird day and you’ve cut yourself some slack, why not lean in and spice up your day with even more randomness?
It doesn’t have to be big or expensive — here are some ideas:
Watch a documentary
Reorganize one drawer
Make a new snack using what you have
Take a walk in an area you’ve never been before
Burn some energy with a new workout or dance routine
Weird days are the perfect time to try something fresh or different — so push the limits of your imagination and see what comes up!
😴 Try again tomorrow
Weird days are just that — entire days that are taken up by something unexpected.
So let your day get taken over, and rest well knowing that you have another opportunity to be “productive” tomorrow.
Also, the day doesn’t need to be salvaged to be meaningful.
Viewing your weird days as something that you need to “make up for” will only reinforce your self-criticism.
Try accepting your weird days exactly as they happen.
