This week: It’s mid-August, which means the end of holiday break is near for a lot of folks. We’re breaking down how to beat the end-of-summer scaries by slowing down, romanticizing the downtime you have left, and resisting the urge to cram everything in. Let’s dive in!

🏖️ Why We Rush Through the End of Summer

August can be a special but scary time.

Summer break is winding down for teachers, students, and families living north of the equator. And for those living down under, school has just started back up, with spring break not far off.

If you’re feeling a bit rushed or pressured this month? You’re not alone, and there are actually a lot of valid reasons behind it:

  • 🧑‍🏫 Back-to-school/work prep — Teachers are making lesson plans, students are finishing summer coursework, parents are shopping for supplies, and everyone’s dreading those early starts. It can be a busy time, even if you’re still technically on break.

  • 😰 FOMO and guilt — If you didn’t follow through with all those adventures you planned back in the spring? It’s okay. There’s still plenty of time for fun left. We’ll talk more about this in a minute, so stay tuned.

  • 🤩 Excitement for the season ahead — Academic / work life can be stressful, but it can also reward you with solid connections and opportunities to make an impact. You may be looking forward to learning new skills, or catching up with friends and peers.

  • 🏗️ Nervous system craving structure — As tedious as our workdays can feel at times, they give our brains and bodies the structured rhythms they need. The end of summer can make us feel antsy, even if it’s not quite time to get back into the groove yet.

  • 🎃 Capitalism pushing fall content in July — It’s only natural to feel like you’re in “autumn” mode already, with stores already stocking Halloween stuff. (As much as we love spooky season, we wish they’d hold off until at least September.)

Now that you’ve discovered some of the reasons behind your August anxiety, let’s explore how to beat it with a technique called “romanticizing”.

💘 Romanticizing: Slowing Down to Speed Up

We’ve talked about romanticizing your life before. It’s all about making life more magical by treating it like one big adventure, and yourself like the main character.

Romanticizing your life also means:

  • Slowing way down to reset your mind and body

  • Intentionally soaking in the small joys before they pass

  • Paying attention to texture, light, scent, and sound

  • Shifting from FOMO to presence, knowing this moment is enough

  • Giving thanks for each opportunity and experience

Romanticizing helps you let go of that urge to multi-task, be somewhere else, or look toward the future instead of immersing yourself in the present.

When you’re tuned in like this, you’ll realize just how many tiny joys in your life usually go unnoticed. These small slices of joy will stack up, making Summer ‘25 more memorable and nostalgic than it might’ve been otherwise.

Now, let’s explore some easy ways to romanticize the rest of your summer.

🌻 Ways to Romanticize the Final Weeks

🍑 Eat peak-season fruit and summer-only treats

Savor flavors you can’t get year-round, like ripe peaches, sweet corn, or that ice cream flavor you only see in August. Make it a mini ritual to enjoy them slowly.

🎞️ Rewatch your fave comfort summer movies

Bring back the nostalgia with films that feel like summer. Bonus points if you pair them with seasonal snacks or watch them outdoors.

💌 Capture your summer in words or photos

Take candid snapshots, write a short journal entry, or create a summer recap letter to yourself. It’s a simple way to bottle the season’s best moments for future you.

☀️ Do a golden-hour walk with no phone

Leave the tech behind and soak in the late-summer light, the sounds, and the shifting air. Let your senses do the remembering.

🧺 Plan a “last day of summer” micro-adventure

It doesn’t have to be big or expensive. A picnic in the park, a solo café day, or an evening swim can make the final stretch of the season feel intentional.

🐢 One Last Thing: Resist the Rush

The responsibilities that often come in September can be so stressful they eat into August, too.

Autumn will come, no matter what.

Preparing can help you get ahead of the busy season — but it’s just as important to rest up and enjoy the rest of your break.

Remember, slowing down is productive, and nostalgia is so much sweeter when you’ve been present all along.

From Italy to a Nasdaq Reservation

How do you follow record-setting success? Get stronger. Take Pacaso. Their real estate co-ownership tech set records in Paris and London in 2024. No surprise. Coldwell Banker says 40% of wealthy Americans plan to buy abroad within a year. So adding 10+ new international destinations, including three in Italy, is big. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
