⚡ How to Maximize Your Energy
How to get more done by working based on your energy levels.

Hey there! Welcome back to The Flow by Flocus. If you’re new around here, welcome! 👋 You can catch up on our previous editions right here.
This week: You’ve heard of time and task management — but what about energy management?
Let’s chat about how you can get more done by planning your days around your energy levels instead of your to-do list!
🤔 First, What Does “Energy” Even Mean?
Ever felt tired despite sleeping a full 8 hours? Or felt your social battery die after an evening with friends?
If so, you know how important energy is for basic functioning.
But “energy” is a somewhat abstract concept that’s not easy to define.
Your overall energy levels include physical stamina and mental capacity, of course. But they also include things like your ability to socialize and regulate your emotions.
Different areas of life require different amounts of energy, too. If you pour more energy into one area, you have less energy to give to all the others.
Certain circumstances — like grief or illness — can also reduce your overall energy levels further.
We only have a certain amount of energy to spend each day. And when we cram our schedules with more stuff than we have the energy to reasonably complete, we set ourselves up for a cycle of burnout.
That’s why it’s important to check in with your energy levels regularly, understand how much energy your tasks generally take, and learn how to stay balanced. Keep reading to learn how!

Now, let’s dig into how to plan your tasks based on your energy levels:
⛽️ How to Plan Tasks According to Your Energy Levels
This week, try scheduling your to-dos with energy management in mind — here’s how:
⚡ 1. Decide how much energy each task requires
You can go with the standard high, medium, and low energy designations.
Or, if that doesn’t work for you, try another ranking system — people who are neurodivergent use the “spoon theory” to prioritize tasks by energy.
When deciding how much energy a task will need, go with your gut — it’s okay to change your mind about how much energy a task requires later on!
⌛ 2. Schedule high-energy tasks for the right times
The “right” times will look different for everyone.
For example, if you know you focus better at night, plan your study sessions for the evenings, and structure the rest of your day accordingly.
Of course, you may not always be able to choose what time you can complete your tasks. In that case, the best course of action is to ensure your energy levels are balanced — which leads us to our next tip!
⛽ 3. Conserve energy & refuel as needed
While you only have so much energy to spend in a day, there are some things you can do to boost your battery life.
If you know that your day will require a lot of social energy, figure out ways to spend less energy on other things, like household chores.
Don’t forget to refill your reserves, too! Fuel your body with water and healthy food, and get enough rest for max brainpower.
